Valerie Kocel, MT-BC graduated from West Texas A&M University in 2002 and received her undergrad degree in music therapy with a concentration in voice. She completed her internship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. In addition to her degree, Valerie has specialized training in NICU music therapy from Florida State University and is a director and registered teacher with Music Together

Following her internship, she started the first pediatric music therapy program at Northwest Texas Healthcare System Children’s Hospital in Amarillo, TX. After layoffs ended the program, Valerie returned to Cleveland where she worked as a music therapist at Beechbrook, a facility for severely emotionally disturbed children. Valerie married her husband, Paul, in 2005 and joined the military life in Florida where she taught voice lessons and was the music teacher at a local charter school. After her husband’s medical retirement from the USAF, they moved to Denver for Paul to work toward his master’s degree.

Since moving to Denver in 2008, Valerie has worked for Adam’s Camp, The Rise School and Denver Health’s pediatric, NICU and mental health departments. Currently she provides individual music therapy services to the patients at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood and teaches
Music Together classes for young children & their families.

Valerie is a member of Alpha Chi, Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society, Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges and served on the CAMT board for 3 years. Valerie specializes in adults with a variety of diagnoses, young children with developmental delays, autism, Aspergers syndrome and other disabilities.
